Seattle Cafe & Night Guide: Work Spots, Late Nights, and the 9PM Problem

Related: how-your-taste-works Informs: personal life, date nights

Two problems: (1) you work from home and need cafes that work as a third space, and (2) Seattle closes at 9PM and you and Polly run out of things to do on date nights. This doc addresses both. Previously explored: seattle-date-night-restaurant-recommendations, japanese-parfait-restaurants-in-seattle.

Historical note: you built something like this once — the Seattleite Guide, a Gmaps overlay on a WordPress CMS with Instagram API integration. Different times. This is the text version.

Part 4: The Seattleite Guide Idea

You mentioned wishing you had a text version of the old Seattleite Guide (Gmaps + WP CMS + Instagram API). A few thoughts:

As a personal tool: This doc IS the text version. Keep it updated as you discover new spots. Link it from Obsidian and it's searchable.

As a blog feature: Could be a simple Astro page on your blog with a map component. Data stored as markdown/JSON. No CMS needed — it's a static site. Libraries like Leaflet.js or MapLibre GL give you the map overlay without Google Maps API costs. Each spot is a markdown file with frontmatter (name, lat/long, tags, hours, notes). The blog already runs Astro.

As a project: If you wanted to rebuild it properly, it's a weekend project:

But honestly — the markdown doc is probably enough. The value was always the curation, not the map.
